About
The Director
Mr. Gary Parr has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music
and Psychology from
University of Kentucky, a Master of Music degree from
Ohio State and studied voice under Richard Miller at Oberlin College. His singing career began as a boy singer at
the age of eight. He has sung opera in
New York and much of Europe.
An
accomplished choral director, Mr. Parr studied conducting under such notables
as Sir David Willcocks, Robert Shaw, Daniel Pinkham, and Thomas Dunn. He has conducted a number of successful
choruses and has taught private voice lessons throughout his thirty plus
years of experience.
He is the father of three
sons and two step-sons. His eldest
is a PhD candidate in Music at Columbia University in NYC as well as an
accomplished professional singer. His
second son, a tenor, has a Master’s Degree in Creative Writing and is a
college teacher in Washington state. One
stepson recently graduated from Roanoke College with a degree in philosophy and
the other is studying music at Oberlin. His
youngest son lives with him and his wife in Vero Beach.
